View MS Access Files In Ubuntu

Friday 13 October 2006 - Filed under Code + Linux

Speaking of Ubuntu – I was digging through the package manager and noticed “MDB Viewer“.

I had several Access files from my old job that I could no longer open without cranking up Windows. With this program you can open, view, query and export data from Microsoft Access files. I just tried a few files – I don’t have any complicated data in any files but it seems to work well.

You can view directly with Office ;D

Office for Windows runs quite well with wine, if you need an easy solution there is also Crossover office (and also a free beta test edition)

Nice! I don’t have to deal with Access files very much but it’s good to know this capability exists.

I’m aware of Wine – just haven’t gotten around to playing with it – since I’m running VMWare I can run Windows so it’s not a huge deal – I just thought MDB Viewer was a great option for the Linux purists :)
