Aptana 1.0 – Pro

Wednesday 31 October 2007 - Filed under Code

This morning I noticed Aptana 1.0 was released – along with a ‘Pro’ edition. The Pro edition offers:

  • JSON Editor
  • Internet Explorer Debugging
  • Remote Project Creation
  • FTPS and SFTP Support
  • Reporting Engine

Along with premium support. They will also continue to provide the free ‘Aptana Studio 1.0 Community Edition’. They also hint they are working on some other projects…

I’m still curious if they will merge with the CFEclipse project.

Digging around the Aptana forums – seems like the plugin install process for 1.0 is a bit of a pain:

“but if you’re running the Eclipse plug-in version, you’ll need to uninstall your old plug-ins, and then install the new ones.”

Bleah. I think I’ll wait a bit until they iron out the wrinkles in 1.0 before making the jump.

It was pretty painless Jim. I only encountered one quirk where I was constantly being prompted to define the location of FireFox. I submitted the issue to Aptana on the forums and got some help. So far, it’s running good. :)

I caught Rey’s post of this release yesterday and have checked ever since, but it’s not available through the automated update system yet. I’ll probably hold out for a while under the (perhaps misguided) assumption that an auto-install will go smoother than a manual one. :-)

The older I get the less time I care to spend monkeying around with stuff just to make it work.
