For quick and dirty stuff I usually use the Web Dev toolbar. If I want to really get under the hood I crank up Firebug. The toolbar has come a long way since I last had it installed. It used to be only moderately useful and was completely eclipsed by the functionality in Firebug. For that reason, I uninstalled it long ago. I re-installed after reading your post and it looks like it's been upgraded to be a very nice toolbox edition. Thanks. Wow.
